Finally WhatsApp team has added the much awaited fingerprint lock feature to its popular messenger app "WhatsApp". Now if you have a Google Android mobile phone which contains fingerprint unlock mechanism, you can enable the same fingerprint lock protection to WhatsApp.
It'll be very beneficial to people who give their mobile phones to their children or others to watch videos, play games, etc but don't want others to check their WhatsApp messages. Now they can protect their WhatsApp chat using fingerprint lock so that no one else can access and read their chat in WhatsApp.
Once you enable fingerprint lock in WhatsApp, it'll ask you to unlock the app using your fingerprint every time you launch the app or after particular time interval which you set in Settings.
WhatsApp uses same fingerprint data stored in your phone which you set to unlock your phone using your fingerprints so no one else can enable or disable the fingerprint feature in WhatsApp.
Fingerprint unlock feature is available in latest version of WhatsApp so make sure you have updated your WhatsApp to the latest version.
If you also want to activate and enable fingerprint lock protection in your WhatsApp, following steps will help you:
1. Open WhatsApp on your mobile phone, tap on 3 vertical dots menu present at the top-right corner and select Settings option.
2. Now tap on "Account -> Privacy" option.
3. Scroll down to bottom and you'll see "Fingerprint lock" option. This is the newly added option which allows users to enable fingerprint security feature in WhatsApp.
Tap on "Fingerprint lock" option and it'll open fingerprint lock settings in new page.
4. Now turn on/enable "Unlock with fingerprint" option.
WhatsApp will ask you to confirm your fingerprint before activating the feature. Tap on fingerprint sensor on your mobile phone to provide your correct fingerprint.
5. Once you confirm your fingerprint, the feature is immediately activated. Now you can set when should WhatsApp ask for fingerprint unlock.
You can set "Automatically lock" option to "Immediately" and WhatsApp will ask for fingerprint unlock each time you open the app.
You can set the option to "After 1 minute" or "After 30 minutes" as well and WhatsApp will ask for fingerprint unlock after the defined time period.
You can also set whether the chat message content should be shown in notifications by turning on or off "Show content in notifications" toggle button.
PS: To disable fingerprint lock mechanism, set the "Unlock with fingerprint" option to OFF in WhatsApp settings.
