0

One thing which I dislike in Windows 10 is the new Start Menu. No matter how powerful the computer system is, Start Menu always takes time in opening or launching. I have checked in several Windows 10 machines and Start Menu is always slower and takes seconds in appearing on screen.

The things go worst when we install a few 3rd party programs and their shortcut entries are added to Start Menu. It starts taking more time in opening due to extra added program shortcuts and entries.
The same thing happens when we have opened some program running in our Windows 10 computers. Start Menu takes more time in showing and it irritates a lot.

If you also think that Windows 10 Start Menu is slow and takes lots of time in opening or launching, this tutorial will help you.

Today in this tutorial, I'll share a small tip to speedup Windows 10 Start Menu. This trick will make Windows 10 Start Menu faster and more responsive. Once you apply the trick, Start Menu in Windows 10 will open instantly without any delay. You'll definitely notice a huge improvement in Start Menu launching time in your Windows 10 device.

Actually there are a few animations and eye candy effects which are used by Windows 10 Start Menu to launch and to display programs list. First an animation is used in displaying Start Menu on computer screen and then another animation is used to show programs list. If you look carefully at your computer screen while opening Start Menu, you'll notice the animations and effects yourself.

These animations and special effects slow down Start Menu launching and that's why Start Menu in Windows 10 takes time in showing on screen and displaying programs list.

To speedup Start Menu, we'll disable/turn off these animations and it'll fix the slower Start Menu problem in Windows 10.

PS: Disabling animations and eye candy effects improves overall system performance and if you disable these effects and animations, you'll notice everything in your Windows 10 device faster and more responsive than before.

To speedup Windows 10 Start Menu, do as following:

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Alternatively you can also open it using WIN+X menu. Now type sysdm.cpl and press Enter. It'll open classic System Properties window.
PS: You can add a permanent shortcut to classic System Properties in This PC context menu with the help of this tutorial.

2. Now go to Advanced tab and click on Settings button present under Performance section.

3. It'll open another window. Now uncheck following 2 options under Visual Effects tab:
  • Animate controls and elements inside windows
  • Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing

BONUS TIP:

If you want to speedup your Windows 10 computer and want to improve overall system performance, you can disable following other options present in System Properties window:
  • Animations in the taskbar
  • Fade or slide menus into view
  • Fade or slide ToolTips into view
  • Fade out menu items after clicking
  • Save taskbar thumbnail previews
  • Show shadows under mouse pointer
